Game Show Developed by Golden Belt Otaku, LLC 2023
SYNOPSIS
Two players each compete to find the top seven answers of a survey or a list from a board of twelve possible answers. The winning player advances to a final round where they can win up to ¥16,000 in cash/prizes by finding the five answers that were not among the top seven of a survey from the same board, and if they score enough, they can earn a ticket to the Tournament of Champions.
PLAY-IN QUESTION (Tossup)
The “demo” question in the software is used as a play-in question to see who will start in Rounds 1 and 2. Both players will take part in a best of one of rock paper scissors to decide who will play the question first. A board of twelve possible answers is shown, then the question is read. For being simple, the survey question will be boring otaku or non-otaku as possible. Beginning with the winner of the rock paper scissors game, each player chooses one of the twelve answers on the board. The player who finds the #7 answer on the board or the answer which is closest to #7 without hitting a Strikeout wins the play-in, choice of answering the first in Round 1 or in Round 2, and gets first choice in the tiebreaker, just in case there is a tie. This round is played first before the First Round Proper. In case of both players getting Strikeouts on the first round, gameplay continues until all strikeouts are uncovered.
GAMEPLAY FORMAT
A game of Otaku Strikeout is played in three rounds, Single, Double, and Triple. (Note: Either the Single or Double is a Super Strikeout Round.)
GAMEPLAY (OTAKU KNOWEGE STRIKEOUT)
At the beginning of the round, a board of twelve answers is shown to both players. Both players start with three lives. The question for that round is asked.
The player of the team that has control is given two choices when it’s their turn. A player can either answer the question or if they think a Strikeout is coming, challenge the other player to answer; however, one correct answer needs to be reveled before starting answer or challenge.
The player that choses to answer the question will give an answer by only using the answers that were on the board. The answer’s place on how common an anime fan knows it is then revealed. If it is among the top seven, the player that gave that answer remains in play, control stays with them, and an amount of money is added to the bank equal to ¥100 x the placement of that answer on the survey. (The #1 answer, being the most obvious, is worth the least. The #7 answer, being the least obvious, is worth the most.)
PENTALTY:
A player loses a life in the round if one of the following two events happen:
- A player finds a STRIKEOUT. (This is carried from Greggo’s Version of the Game with touches)
- A Fail Challenge (This is new to OTAKU STRIKEOUT)
- A Player finds a STRIKEOUT.
If the player finds one of the five answers that does not fit the question (in other words, one of the STRIKEOUTS), that player loses a life from the round and control goes to the other player.
Note: On Super Strikeout, one of the five Strikeouts is an answer that both players must avoid as that will end the round early.
- A Fail Challenge
When the player that has control decides to challenge, the other player must answer the question. If the answer is a STRIKEOUT, the player that gave the answer loses a life from the round and control stays with the team that challenges that player. If the answer is one of the top seven, the player who challenged that player loses a life in the round, and the player that gave the answer gets control, and normal format of getting a top seven answer happens.
Winning a round
If a player finds the final remaining answer on the board that made the top seven, that player wins the round. If a team loses its last life from penalties or on the Super Strikeout round finds the Super Strikeout, that player loses the round. The winning player earns the points in the round.
Points for the game (Formula: (1 point X Round Number) X Number of Lives that were in the round):
Single: 3 points max (1 point X 3 lives)
Double: 6 points max (2 points X 3 lives)
Triple: 9 points max (3 points X 3 lives)
Round Control
The player that does not start Round 1 (Single) starts Round 2 (Double). The player that is trailing after two rounds goes first in Round 3 (Triple).
Winning the game
The player with the Most Points after Round 3 wins and goes to the bonus round. Round 3 can end prematurely if the trailing player cannot get enough points in Round 3 to catch up. If the teams tied after three rounds, the tiebreaker is the Winner Card in Sudden Death.
The winning player scores the entire accumulated bank as their starting score to see if they get onto the Leader’s Board at the end of the show.
Sudden death
For Sudden Death, two methods will be used:
Method 1:
One Card says Winner and One Card says Strikeout
Note: This will be used until we have some survey questions filled out as well as the Grand Final.
Method 2:
Two Choices with one being the #1 answer. On this one, the one that has the #1 Answer wins the game.
BONUS GAME (NON-OTAKU KNOWEGE STRIKEOUT)
The bonus game is played with a new board of twelve answers. The player is given a starting bank of ¥500, which is the minimum they can win.
Regular rules other than challenging still apply expect the player gets one life per round they won in the main game (They do not get a life from toss-up.)
A question is asked, and the player must find the five STRIKEOUTs. The player will give the first answer. Finding a STRIKEOUT doubles the money in the bank and earns the player the right to quit with their winnings.
Finding one of the top seven answers resets the bank to ¥500, the player loses a life, and if the player has any lives left, the player must give answers until they get another STRIKEOUT.
If the team successfully finds the five STRIKEOUTS without making a mistake in between, they win the maximum of ¥16,000 in bonus money. If they lost all their members in the process, they won the minimum of ¥500.
PRIZE LAYOUT
After the Bonus Round, the winning player scores will be added for the episode winnings for each player:

TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS AND GRAND FINAL
Each winning player will be placed on a Leader’s Board for the top six spots. Winning players will need to watch the remaining Otaku Strikeout Episodes in Season 2 and 3 to see if they are still on the board. Season 4 will be the Tournament of Champions with the Season Finale being the Grand Final. The last three episodes will be at one anime convention for ease of use for the four players. Grand Final games play the same as regular strikeout expect the championship game is played for higher gift cards. Higher seed goes first in Tossup. Semifinalists will get $10 for taking part in the Tournament. All players will get an Otaku Strikeout DVD as their prize for taking part in the Tournament. Players will get the DVD after they are done in the tournament.
Ties for the Tournament of Champions are settled by points in their Regular Game. In case the money amount and points are tied, then a Tiebreaker Game will be used to decide who moves on to the Tournament of Champions.
Seeding for the Tournament of Champions will be the following: Money Amount and Main Game Points. The top two seeds go to the Grand Final site. Quarterfinals will be set up as 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5, with 3 and 4 hosting the game at the anime convention that they qualify at.
Winners of the Semifinals will qualify for the next Tournament of Champions automatically unless the champion won the Serenity Jackpot. Players that qualify for the next one that are eliminated at the next tournament are invited back in the regular rotation to get back into the Tournament of Champions. Tournament of Champion seeds will be decided by regular shows.
Seeding of the Tournament of Champions will be the following:
- Total amount won in episode
- Total points in game
- Total bonus money in episode
In case that all three are the same, then tiebreaker game will be played for the #5 and #6 spots. Tiebreaker games can be played if there are three players in the #4 spot and four players in the #3 spot. All of those will be episodes in the Tournament of Champions Season with winnings going towards the Serenity Jackpot.
SERENITY JACKPOT
The Serenity Jackpot is a jackpot that can be won in the grand final by winning ¥16,000 in the Grand Final Bonus Round before you lose all of your lives. If you make it, you win the Serenity Jackpot. The Serenity Jackpot is a cash jackpot that starts at $50. The Serenity Jackpot is increased by the prize money that the winner of each regular episode that that player didn’t win in the bonus round. (For example, if the player walks away with $20 from the bonus round, $10 will be added to the Serenity Jackpot.) The Serenity Jackpot increases as well based on how the Wildcard winner and First Round Winner do in the Tournament of Champions. After the First Round of the Tournament of Champions, the Serenity Jackpot is frozen.
For Season 4, the maximum that the Serenity Jackpot can go up to is $290.
A Serenity Jackpot can roll over to other Tournament of Champions if not won. If a Serenity Jackpot is won, then that player that won the jackpot retires from Otaku Strikeout and forfeits their automatic bid spot. If this happens, then that automatic spot will become another spot open to at-large holders.
After a Serenity Jackpot is won, the next Serenity Jackpot starts off at $50.
